Ayer Kuning polls: Focus on education is BN candidate’s priority

TAPAH: Transforming the lives of his constituents through education is the primary focus for Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir if he wins the Ayer Kuning by-election.

The Tapah Umno secretary said education is crucial for improving the quality of life in his constituency.

"I have a background in education, so it is one of my main focus points.

"Education is important as it can change our mindset and transform our quality of life," he said after a programme with the people in Kampung Tersusun Batu Empat on Monday (April 14).

"It is my aim to create a great generation," he added.

Mohamad Yusri was formerly head of the Department of Islamic and Moral Education at the Ipoh Campus of the Teacher Education Institute.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic Education from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

He is contesting the state seat against Perikatan Nasional's Abd Muhaimin Malek and Parti Sosialis Malaysia deputy secretary-general KS Bawani.

Polling is set for April 26, while early voting is on April 22.

The by-election was called following the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin, 58, on Feb 22.

In the 2022 General Election, Ishsam polled 9,088 votes and won by a 2,213 majority, defeating Amanah's Mohd Nazri Hashim, Muhammad Noor Farid of PAS, Pejuang's Maziah Salim and Bawani.
