Foreign woman dies after being hit by lorry while crossing Kajang road


KAJANG: A 41-year-old foreign woman was killed after she was hit by a lorry carrying gas cylinders while attempting to cross a road on Jalan Semenyih here.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received information on the fatal accident at about 7.30pm on Thursday (Aug 6).

"Initial investigations found that the 36-year-old local driver was travelling from Semenyih towards EcoHill to deliver gas cylinders when the accident occurred.

"As the lorry passed the location, the victim, a 41-year-old foreign woman, was crossing the road. The driver was unable to avoid her and struck the pedestrian," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 7).

He said the victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police have urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Insp Mohd Raziman Rasid, at 019-456 5502 to assist investigations.

ACP Naazron also reminded all road users to exercise caution, drive responsibly and comply with traffic regulations to ensure the safety of everyone.
