PGA seizes smuggled groceries, sausages worth over RM14,000

KOTA BHARU: The General Operations Forces seized smuggled frozen foods, pork sausages, and groceries worth RM14,096 in three separate raids in Rantau Panjang and Pengkalan Kubor on Saturday (April 11)

Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Ab Hamid (pic) said the first seizure occurred at 2.30pm at the illegal Epek base in Lubok Jong, where packages were found along the Golok River banks.

"An inspection found 240 packets of frozen foods from Thailand worth RM12,000, suspected to be for sale in the local market," he said.

In the second raid at 6.30pm, a four-wheel-drive vehicle was stopped on Jalan Kasban, Kampung Tualang, near Pengkalan Kubor.

The inspection revealed various groceries worth RM1,496.

A 20-year-old suspect, believed to be delivering the items to the local market, has been detained for further investigation.

The third raid at 9.30pm led to the seizure of 15 packets of pork sausages worth RM600, found by the Golok River.

These were left by a group of smugglers startled by the presence of PGA personnel.

"All cases are being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

We will continue to intensify efforts to curb smuggling activities at the country’s border," he added.
