Tawau man slashed by drunk friend

KOTA KINABALU: A man in Tawau district has been injured after his reportedly drunk friend slashed him with a machete.

The 49-year-old victim was invited to his friend’s house in Kampung Simpang Tiga, Merotai, to discuss some matters on Tuesday (April 8).

Tawau deputy OCPD Supt Champin Piuh said the suspect, who was believed to be drunk, slashed the victim when he arrived.

“The victim sustained injuries on his arm, hand, back and body,” he said in a statement on Friday (April 11).

The victim managed to escape and sought treatment at Hospital Tawau before lodging a police report, he added.

Supt Champin said police arrested the suspect at his house at 1.15pm on Wednesday (April 9) and seized a machete.

He said the suspect, a 30-year-old undocumented migrant, is being investigated for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.

He said the victim is still being treated for his wounds in the hospital.
