Putra Heights inferno: MAIS hands over more than RM50,000 in food aid, student pocket money to victims

SUBANG JAYA: Over RM50,000 in dry food aid and student pocket money from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has been given to the victims of the recent Putra Heights gas pipeline fire.

The council said the RM35,076 in dry food aid involved boxes of food aid, worth RM220 each, to the 158 families affected by the disaster.

It said that each box contained packets of rice, sugar, milk and various other dry forms of essential food.

Mais said it had also provided RM22,800 in student pocket money aid for 76 students affected by the fire under its Fidyah student pocket money distribution programme with each of them having received RM300.

All food boxes and student pocket money aid was handed over to victims at the victim relief centre in the Putra Heights Mosque on Friday (April 11).

“This aid contribution uses MAIS’s Fidyah allocation and aims to help ease the pressure and difficulties faced by the victims.

“MAIS hopes that the assistance received will, to some extent, ensure that the victims have enough food and help reduce the cost of them moving into rental homes,” Mais said in a press release on Friday (April 11).
