Nga to discuss housing solutions for Putra Heights blast victims with PM


KUALA LUMPUR: Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming says he will be discussing solutions for housing problems faced by victims of the Putra Heights gas pipe blast with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"What is important is whether we solve the victims’ problems on the ground," said Nga in response to criticism that he had not visited the explosion site.

He stressed that all ministries have provided necessary aid, including mobile phones and free bus transport for students, while DAP has raised funds for affected individuals.

"Let us focus on doing our work, and I am focusing on a total solution for the victims," Nga stated before meeting Anwar.

The minister spoke to the media on Monday (April 7) after launching the 14th Annual Affordable Housing Projects Conference at a hotel here.

On April 1, a massive fire at a Petronas gas pipeline on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, ignited at 8.10am, affecting 1,254 people from 308 families.

A total of 87 houses were completely destroyed, while 148 houses suffered damage and needed repair.

Nga has faced social media criticism for not visiting the site after the blast as victims struggled with housing issues and displacement.
