Bintulu fire claims 77-year-old woman, razes 16 squatters


BINTULU: A 77-year-old woman died in a fire on Monday (April 7), which razed 16 squatters in Jalan Tanjung Kidurong here.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said its Bintulu station was alerted of the fire at 11am.

"The fire was already at its height when firefighters arrived at the scene. 16 units of squatters were completely destroyed by the fire," it said.

The department added that victim Nuie Ipang’s body was burnt beyond recognition.

The fire left 92 people homeless, comprising 67 adults and the rest children.
