Melaka cops hunting cross-border snatch thieves after robbery

MELAKA: Melaka police have launched a manhunt for three cross-border snatch thieves following a robbery involving a 55-year-old housewife in Taman Paya Dalam, Tiang Dua.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit stated that the suspects are believed to be the same individuals involved in a similar theft in Segamat, Johor, and had travelled almost 95km to commit the crime on Friday (April 4).

"The case in Johor was reported on Thursday (April 3), where a female victim from Taman Astaka Jaya, Segamat in Johor was targeted while walking with three others during the Hari Raya celebration," he said on Sunday (April 6).

In the Melaka incident, ACP Christopher Patit said the victim lost RM12,000 during the snatch theft, which occurred at 7.34pm.

He explained that the victim, who has five children, was waiting for one of her children to leave for work outside their home at the time of the incident.

"While waiting, she noticed a motorcycle with an unclear registration number, ridden by two men, passing by her house.

"Moments later, the motorcycle made a sudden U-turn when one of the suspects violently snatched the necklace from the victim," he said.

ACP Christopher Patit added that the incident was captured on the house’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) system and added that the third accomplice is believed to have been riding another motorcycle but was not captured in any footage.

He mentioned that the victim, who experienced chest pains following the incident, lodged a police report at the Tiang Dua Police Station on the same day (April 4).
