SUBANG JAYA: Authorities from the National Registration Department (NRD) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) are at temporary relief centres here to replace documents lost by victims of the gas pipeline fire.
A NRD Mekar bus team replaced 27 identity cards and 86 birth certificates of victims at the Putra Heights Mosque temporary relief centre, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Thursday (April 3).
The identification document replacement operation at the centre will continue until Sunday (April 6)," he said in a Facebook post.
Saifuddin Nasution added residents who were not at home when the fire broke out at Putra Heights, Subang Jaya on Tuesday (April 1) can still obtain replacements through the Mekar initiative until the end of the week.
Meanwhile, JPJ said it had received 82 applications from victims for replacement documents.
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said applications were submitted through a mobile counter set up in Masjid Putra Heights compound Thursday morning.
"As of 4.30pm, JPJ has received 13 applications for road tax, 53 for vehicle ownership certificates, 13 for competent driving licences (CDL), and three for goods driving licences (GDL).
"All these applications are processed free of charge, except for five individuals renewing their CDL," he said.
The massive fire, which broke out at 8.10am on Tuesday, saw towering flames and intense heat, destroying rows of houses and properties, including more than 300 vehicles.
Sixty-four people were injured and more than 300 people displaced but no fatalities were reported. – Bernama
