MELAKA: Economic figures and policy achievements will mean little politically if Malaysians cannot feel their impact in their everyday lives, says PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.
He said the PKR Youth wing acknowledged that economic performance alone was insufficient to win public confidence, particularly when households continued to grapple with the cost of living.
“People may not follow economic reports or debates about the country’s fiscal position, but they know how much they have to pay for essential goods every week.
“Performance politics must be accompanied by clear explanation, policies must inspire confidence and achievements must be communicated in language the people understand," he said when delivering his keynote address at the PKR Youth Congress, held as part of the PKR 2026 National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here on Thursday (Aug 13).
Muhammad Kamil said the government’s policies would ultimately be judged not by achievements recorded on paper but by whether they brought meaningful improvements to people’s lives.
He noted among the concerns demanding attention were young people’s anxieties over employment, families struggling with living costs and parents worried about their children’s educational prospects.
"Some within the Malay community are concerned about economic ownership and their position as the country undergoes change.
“Communities in Sabah and Sarawak have their own concerns and demands. All these voices must be heard and taken seriously,” he said.
Muhammad Kamil also urged PKR youth not to use disappointing election results as an excuse for its shortcomings.
Instead, he said, the setbacks should serve as a political wake-up call for the youth wing to undertake honest self-reflection, address its weaknesses and rebuild public confidence.
“We should view disappointing election results as an opportunity to reflect and improve, rather than as an excuse,” he added.
