PETALING JAYA: The public should not spread fake news or unverified information about the recent gas inferno in Putra Heights as it could cause confusion in the community, says Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
The Deputy Home Minister said the authorities will take action against anyone who takes advantage of the ongoing crisis in Putra Heights and the Home Ministry is currently monitoring the situation closely.
“If you want information, follow the official statements by the authorities. This is to avoid confusion.
“The Home Ministry and the police are monitoring the situation, aside from the Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“The Home Ministry, through the police, will not hesitate to take action, based on current laws, against anyone trying to take advantage of the situation,” Shamsul told reporters after visiting fire victims who are sheltering at the Putra Heights Mosque.

Shamsul also said the Home Ministry had set up mobile counters from the National Registration Department (JPN) in order to facilitate victims reprinting their birth certificates or identification cards.
To date, Shamsul said the mobile JPN counters have issued 19 replacement MyKad and four birth certificates.
“These documents are important because they need it for welfare aid and other claims,” he said.
“The Home Ministry sympathises with the victims. The government, as well as related agencies, are doing their utmost best to assist victims.” added Shamsul.
The Fire and Rescue Department said on Tuesday (April 1) that at least 190 homes, 148 cars and 12 motorcycles were damaged by the morning inferno caused by a gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights.
