JERTIH: A 28-year-old local man who reportedly jumped into Sungai Kampung Gong Maksom near Kampung Raja on Wednesday (Aug 12) to evade a police check was found drowned the next morning.
Besut OCPD Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said the search and rescue team found the victim’s body at around 11.30am, about 250m from where he was last seen.
At around 5.45pm on Wednesday, police officers were carrying out routine checks for a drug case near the river bank when the man fled, he said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 13).
"He is believed to have leapt into the river to evade police officers before vanishing,” he said, adding that the victim’s body was sent to Besut Hospital’s forensic unit for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Supt Rozaime said a further search of a wooden shed near the scene led to the discovery of pills suspected to be drugs.- Bernama
