Four injured in Sabak Bernam firecracker stall blaze


SHAH ALAM: Four people were injured, one of them seriously, when a canopy used for selling firecrackers caught fire in Kampung Batu 9, Pekan Sabak Bernam.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said a team was sent to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.08am yesterday.

On arrival, he said, the fire which broke out at the 40 sq ft canopy had been put out.

“The injured were four local men in their 20s, one of whom was seriously injured on both his legs and right hand.

“We sent all the victims to a hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.

Sabak Bernam OCPD Supt Md Yusof Ahmad said checks showed a permit had been issued to the vendor selling the firecrackers and fireworks at the canopy.

He said the four injured men were sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Jemaah.

The case will be investigated under Section 285 of the Penal Code.
