Selangor MB: Initial report within 72 hours

SUBANG JAYA: The initial report on the gas pipeline fire at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights here, is expected to be completed within 72 hours, says Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation to find out what caused this incident while information shared on social media needs to be verified.

“If you have any (information), please pass it on to the authorities so that we can conduct a comprehensive investigation into this issue. Hopefully, the police will get in-depth information so that we can get clues to the cause of (this incident).”

Amirudin said this to Bernama when met after visiting the victims of the fire at the temporary evacuation centre at the Putra Heights mosque’s multipurpose hall yesterday.

He advised the affected residents not to return to their homes until the situation is declared safe by the authorities.

“The area that we will temporarily close is 28ha, which is approximately 290m in radius covering two localities, namely Taman Harmoni and Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru.

“I appeal to the people to avoid going (home) in the next 48 hours,” he said after announcing that the fire was put out at 3.45pm.

In an earlier Facebook post, Amirudin said a total of 305 fire victims had been rescued and relocated as at 5pm yesterday.

He said they were housed at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS), as well as admitted to Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Hospital Serdang and Hospital Putrajaya.

“The priority at the moment is the safety of the residents.

“The two residential areas within the 290m radius will be categorised as prohibited areas, and residents are only allowed to return after safety is assured,” he said in the post.

He added that Selangor will work closely with the Federal Government in handling the issue.
