KUALA LUMPUR: PETRONAS has assured the public that it will continue to put safety as a priority following the blaze that happened after an explosion at its gas pipeline near Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

“The safety of the surrounding community and environment and the security of the gas supply to the nation continue to be our utmost priority,” the company said in a statement.

PETRONAS added that the area’s surrounding three retail stations – PS Putra Heights, PS KM2 LDP and PS Putra Bestari – were not affected by the incident.

PETRONAS has, however, temporarily closed the stations as a “precautionary measure”.

Customers may use the following alternatives for their refuelling needs – PS USJ 20, USJ 6 and USJ 9 – the statement added, according to Bernama.

In another statement, PETRONAS confirmed that a fire occurred at PETRONAS Gas Bhd’s main pipeline near Putra Heights at 8.10am yesterday.

It said the affected pipeline has been isolated, and all relevant stakeholders have been informed.

“We are working closely with the local authorities to manage the situation, and we will provide additional information in due course as the investigation is still being carried out,” it said.
