Teen drowns at Mondikot Camp Bear, Papar


Firemen carrying the body of a teenager who was found drowned after going missing while swimming at Sungai Mondikot in Papar on Sunday (March 30).

KOTA KINABALU: A teenage boy drowned while swimming at Mondikot Camp Bear in Kampung Kaiduan, Papar, on Sunday (March 30), while two others survived.

The 18-year-old was picnicking with family members before taking a dip in the river with two others, aged 43 and another individual whose identity has not been confirmed. 

Their relationship is not immediately known.

The victim went missing, while the other two were rescued.

Papar Fire and Rescue Station chief Rozlan Osman said nine personnel, led by operations commander Mohd Hamdani Mohd Harith, were dispatched to the scene, about 30km away, after receiving a distress call at 4pm.

“A search and rescue effort was activated. The two survivors were transported to the nearest hospital by ambulance and family members,” he said.

The victim was later found and confirmed dead by medical officials at the scene.

Rozlan added that the operation was concluded at 5.20pm.
