JOHOR BARU: All of the temporary relief centres (PPS) in Johor were closed on Saturday (March 29).
The Johor disaster management committee reported that the last PPS, located in SM Seri Gading, Batu Pahat, closed at 6pm on Saturday after all the evacuees were allowed to return home.
“Earlier, it was sheltering 140 evacuees from 44 families,” it said in a statement.
The report also stated that parts of Johor such as Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi are expected to see thunderstorms, as forecast by the Meteorological Department.
The continuous downpour on March 19 caused floods in Johor Baru, Kulai, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Batu Pahat, forcing more than 11,000 people to evacuate to various relief centres in the following days.
At the height of the floods, 114 PPS were opened to provide shelter for the victims.
The situation improved gradually as waters receded, with many returning to their homes for clean ups.
More than 500 tonnes of solid waste, including damaged mattresses and cabinets, were expected to be dumped as a result of the floods.
