Speaker Johari expresses sympathy, solidarity with Myanmar, Thailand after 7.7 magnitude quake

PETALING JAYA: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul has expressed solidarity and sympathy for the people in Myanmar and Thailand affected by a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Sagaing, Myanmar, earlier on Friday (March 28) afternoon.

He reported that the quake has so far resulted in at least one death and 50 injuries in Bangkok due to a building collapsing.

"I wish to convey my condolences to the victim's family and hope all who are injured will receive immediate treatment and recovery.

"In such challenging times, we in Malaysia stand by the people of Myanmar and Thailand, as well as others who may have been affected," he said in a statement on Friday (March 28).

Johari prayed that the victims will be granted strength and resilience in facing this tragedy, hoping that search and rescue efforts will also be swift and effective.

"As part of the Asean family, we have a joint responsibility to keep fostering the spirit of togetherness, strengthen regional ties, and extend help and support to our neighbours who may be facing difficulties.

"In these moments, it is our duty to work together, express solidarity, and ensure that no member nations are alone in facing challenges," he said.
