Keeping connected this Raya

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians will be able to enjoy at least 5GB of additional free data on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil (pic).

The Communications Minister said this includes Malaysians using CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM Tech, YTL Communications, Pavo Comms, Tune Talk, redOne, REDtone and XOX Com.

Both postpaid and prepaid Malaysian-registered accounts of these mobile network operators will be eligible, said the government spokesperson.

“The additional quota will be automatically credited to user accounts on the first day of Raya,” he said in a press conference at the Communications Ministry yesterday.

“This additional data will be valid for at least 24 hours after it is credited, subject to the terms and conditions of each individual mobile network operator.”

Fahmi said each Malaysian would be given this additional 5GB only for one number under each mobile network operator they are subscribed to.

This is expected to benefit the roughly 45 million Malaysian-registered accounts under the mobile networks.

Fahmi urged users to contact their network operators for additional information.

On another matter, the minister urged consumers to use the government’s Pricecatcher app to compare prices of groceries and household items at different locations in order to find the best deals.

He added that the prices of basic necessities have come under control following efforts taken by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.

Industry players have also helped to keep prices down during the festive season, he added.

“We can also see that local white rice (BPT) has begun to reach various locations and the KPKM is continuously striving to identify the places that have yet to obtain the BPT and to deliver it.

“Some of the ministers have also said the prices of eggs at certain places have come down ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. So, this is quite a positive sign.”

On another matter, Fahmi said the second phase of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) salary increase would be completed at the end of the year, earlier than initially scheduled.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that civil servants under the management and professional category as well as officers would receive a 7% raise in the second phase of SSPA salary adjustments on Jan 1, 2026.
