Events for 11th Sabah Governor's birthday happening in June


KOTA KINABALU: Numerous events will take placein June to celebrate the 74th birthday of Sabah's Tuan Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

“In accordance with the Sabah Government Gazette, the official birthday of the Governor falls on March 30, 2025,” said Dr Gunsalam after chairing the first Main Committee Meeting after the Sabah Cabinet approved the proposed events and budget on Tuesday (March 25).

However, he said seven official events taking place in Sabah in June.

The Local Government and Housing Minister said this marks Musa's first official birthday celebration since his appointment as the 11th Sabah Governor, effective January 1.

Four of the seven scheduled events are set to take place on June 21, including the Parade Ceremony, the Parade Competition Prize Presentation, the State Awards and Honours Investiture Ceremony, and the State Banquet.

The remaining three events, namely a Tahlil Prayer, Special Prayers, and a Thanksgiving Prayer; the Sabah Ethnic Day; and a Tea Reception with Special Needs Children and Orphans, would take place before June 21.

“The organisation of events for the official birthday celebration is supported by various state and federal ministries and agencies,” he added.

Previously, the Sabah State Secretary, Datuk Seri Safar Untong, issued a government gazette on March 6, declaring March 30 as a public holiday in Sabah, per the Governor’s directive.

This new date replaces the previous official birthday celebration of the Sabah Governor, which was traditionally observed on the first Saturday of October.
