Grateful mum looking for doctor who came to aid of baby having seizure

GEORGE TOWN: A grateful mother is looking for the doctor who came to the aid of her 18-month-old son when he suffered a seizure and lost consciousness at the AEON Queensbay Store here.

Lee Ying Zi, 31, said she wanted to thank the doctor personally for coming to her aid during the 8pm incident on Sunday (March 23).

Recalling the incident, Lee described her child’s face contorting, limbs stiffening and her husband shouting in panic, suspecting a seizure.

“I immediately picked up my son and rushed out of the supermarket, loudly asking if there was a doctor nearby.

“A couple shopping in the mall heard the cries and the man, identifying himself as a doctor, came over and began treating my son.

“He told me to lay my son flat on the table of a booth nearby and began assessing his condition,” she said.

Lee said at first, her son continued to show signs of seizure, with his eyes widened and body stiffened with no reaction.

The doctor, said Lee, continued to gently call her son and monitor his condition, while a woman nearby helped soothe her son by massaging his head with ointment.

Soon after, the doctor confirmed that the child’s eyes had begun to show slight movement, and his condition improved.

With the help of everyone, the child gradually regained consciousness. Lee then took him to the hospital for further checks.

“This doctor was a lifesaver. He told me my child was okay, but I did not believe it at first because he was still unresponsive.

“The doctor was calm, patient and he reassured me, saying, 'Don’t worry, I’ve checked and he’s fine. Take him to the hospital for a check-up',” said Lee.

Lee was also deeply moved by the kindness and compassion of bystanders of all races who came to her aid.

One person helped by calling for an ambulance, another couple looked after her bag, while a lady comforted her son as though he was her own grandson.

"I was truly touched by their selflessness," she said.

She recalled the moment when the doctor asked if anyone had a cloth, and a man nearby immediately walked over and handed her a handkerchief without hesitation.

"He didn’t think twice and gave me his child’s handkerchief. I am deeply grateful for his kind gesture,” she said.

After sharing the incident on Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social networking and e-commerce platform), Lee received messages from many people who reached out to check on her child’s condition.

She later reached out to the mall management to ask about the doctor's identity, but they were uncertain.

“All I was told is that he might be from the Seberang Jaya Hospital's emergency department.

“I just want to meet him again and thank him personally,” she said.
