Cops mobilise nearly 7,000 officers for Ops Selamat 24 this Aidilfitri

KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 7,000 police officers will be stationed to monitor an estimated 2.2 million vehicles during Ops Selamat 24 from March 29 to April 3.

Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the director of the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, announced the operation's launch in front of the Sogo Shopping Centre on Sunday (March 23).

He said that 6,957 police officers and personnel will be deployed throughout the duration of Ops Selamat.

Police estimate that approximately 2.2 million vehicles will be on the highways during the upcoming holiday period.

Comm Mohd Yusri noted that 25 hotspots and 46 black spots have been identified along the main highways.

Additionally, the department would closely monitor 407 hotspot locations and 76 black spot locations nationwide across various districts, including federal and municipal roads, to ensure all road users can travel safely and comfortably.

Constant surveillance would be conducted to assist road users in times of need or emergencies. Enforcement actions would also be taken against those who refuse to obey road laws, which could lead to accidents.

In the previous Ops Selamat last year, there were 1,512 reported cases, including 12 fatal accidents resulting in 12 fatalities.
