Over RM11mil allocated for flood relief, says Johor Mentri Besar

JOHOR BARU: The Johor government has allocated more than RM11mil to assist those affected by the recent floods impacting six districts statewide.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced that the state government has agreed to allocate RM11.247mil for the special northeast monsoon flood aid to ease the burden on thousands of people, including businesses, affected by the floods in Johor Baru, Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Kulai, Pontian, and Batu Pahat.

"A total of RM3,000 will be disbursed before Hari Raya Aidilfitri to each of the 3,749 registered heads of households at flood relief centres (PPS) statewide.

"Flood victims who are affected but did not register at any PPS can submit an appeal for aid consideration through their respective local councils by the end of April," he stated in a Facebook post.

Onn Hafiz noted that the assistance is a collaborative effort involving the state government, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ), local authorities, and the Johor Housing Development Corporation.

The Mentri Besar added that Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaar traders affected by the floods in two local councils will also receive one-off aid.

"To ease their burden, we will give one-off aid of RM500 each to affected traders under the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) and the Kota Tinggi District Council (MDKT).

"This will benefit 441 traders from five bazaars in the two local councils.

"On top of that, we have also agreed to waive all charges for bazaars, except for Aidilfitri bazaar's rental, in nine local councils," he added.

Onn Hafiz said the aid will benefit 9,839 traders in MBJB, MDKT, Iskandar Puteri City Council, Pasir Gudang City Council, Batu Pahat Municipal Council, Kluang Municipal Council, Kulai Municipal Council, Pontian Municipal Council, and Simpang Renggam District Council.

He added that six mosques, 17 suraus, and 43 educational institutions affected by the floods will also receive repair assistance from the state government.

"We hope that this assistance will help ease the burden of the flood victims and provide hope for them to rebuild their lives," said the Mentri Besar.
