Flood situation worsens in Sarawak, improves in Sabah as evacuee numbers shift

PETALING JAYA: The flood situation in Sarawak has worsened, with the number of evacuees rising steadily.

The state disaster management committee secretariat reported that the number of flood evacuees has increased to 435, up from 274 on Friday (March 21) morning.

They are currently housed in five relief centres: Balai Raya Song, Asrama Belia Kapit, Dewan Suarah Kapit, Dewan Kompleks Sukan Kanowit, and Dewan Komuniti Sibu Jaya.

Meanwhile in SABAH, the number of evacuees has dropped significantly to 344 individuals from 107 families on Friday evening, compared to 1,248 from 396 families in the morning.

This decline follows the closure of three relief centres in Kota Marudu, where flood conditions have improved, Bernama reported.

The secretariat added that the remaining evacuees are sheltering in nine relief centres across Keningau, Sipitang, Sandakan, Beluran, Paitan, Matunggong, and Pitas.
