Early detection important, says Sabah CM's wife in urging NGOs to help raise awareness of breast cancer

KOTA KINABALU: Breast cancer awareness associations should be more proactive in spreading information on this issue and the importance of early detection by going to the ground more often.

Datin Julia Salag, who is the wife of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, said breast cancer support associations, such as Sabah Kinabalu Pink Ribbon, play a vital role in creating more awareness on this topic.

They are also instrumental in providing a support system to patients and their families or caregivers, she said after receiving a courtesy call from Sabah Kinabalu Pink Ribbon members here, Thursday (Mar 20).

She said associations like these must go to the ground more and hold programmes that help others understand about breast cancer.

“Early detection is important in the fight against breast cancer, treatment and rehabilitation," said Julia after being briefed about the association’s programmes by its president Christy Fe Salazar.

During the briefing, Salazar informed Julia about their upcoming 13th Mother's Day Walk Abreast 2025 programme to be held on May 4, at the Likas Bay public park.

She said this annual event is to create more awareness on this issue and to raise funds to help breast cancer patients.
