Father and son burnt to death in road crash


IPOH: A father and son were burnt to death after the sand-­laden trailer they were in hit a lorry and caught fire near Tapah.

Tapah acting OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Fadzil Ismail said the accident occurred yesterday morning at KM332.4 of the North-South Expressway, on the north-bound side.

He said police were informed about the incident at 8.02am.

“The victims are the 45-year-old trailer driver and his 23-year-old son.

“According to preliminary investigations, the accident happened when the sand-laden ­trailer crashed into the rear of the stationary lorry transporting sponge and foam.

“The lorry had stopped at the emergency lane near to the entrance of a rest and recreational area,” he said in a statement.

DSP Mohd Fadzil said the collision resulted in the trailer catching fire, and the two victims burnt to death at the scene.

The 43-year-old driver of the stationary lorry escaped unhurt.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act. Those with information regarding the accident are urged to contact the investigation office Mohd Zulhafiz Zainuddin at 017-400 6662,” he added.

He advised motorists to be more cautious on the road, and to get enough rest before driving to avoid accidents.
