DPM Ahmad Zahid congratulates Leia Mayssa on MIT offer

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated a Banting Mara College student on receiving an offer to further her studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.

Ahmad Zahid, in a Facebook post, described the success of 18-year-old Leia Mayssa Masyerin as not only making her family and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) proud but also being a symbol of the ability of Malaysian students to compete and excel at the highest levels in the world.

"With determination, discipline and a strong spirit, there are no limits to achieving success.

"I pray that Leia's journey at MIT will be smooth and (that she) continues to be an inspiration to the younger generation to boldly chase their dreams. Malaysia is proud of your success, Leia! All the best," he posted.

Ahmad Zahid said that Leia, who received an offer to study Computer Science at MIT for the 2025 intake, had previously made the country proud by representing Malaysia in the International Mathematical Olympiad for three consecutive years in Norway (2022), Japan (2023), and the United Kingdom (2024).

"In this prestigious competition, Leia bagged one bronze medal and two Honorary Mentions, proving her excellence in Mathematics on the global stage," he said.

If that isn't enough, he said Leia was also selected to join the International Mathematics Camp, Maths Beyond Limits, in Poland, an exclusive programme that gathers outstanding students from around the world to develop their talents in Mathematics and build a global academic network. - Bernama
