Sibu cops nab two, seize homemade shotgun, drugs


SIBU: Two men, aged 20 and 35 years old, respectively, were arrested for possessing a homemade shotgun and drugs at a house in Ladang Lengan, Jalan Batang Lebaan, Tanjung Manis near here.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said a raid on the house was carried out by a team of police officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Sibu district police headquarters at around 2.50pm on Sunday (March 9)

The raid also found evidence linking the two suspects to criminal activities.

"The items seized included a homemade shotgun along with six 12-gauge bullets and 6.18g of syabu," he said in a statement.

According to ACP Zulkipli, both suspects have been detained for further investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 39(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.

"Section 39(A) provides for mandatory imprisonment and whipping, with a minimum of two years' imprisonment and three strokes of the cane if convicted.

"Meanwhile, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 carries a prison sentence of up to seven years or a maximum fine of RM10,000, or both," he said.

Both suspects were remanded at the Sibu courts on Monday (March 10) for further action.

ACP Zulkipli also called on the public to immediately report any suspicious activities related to the possession of unlicensed firearms and drug abuse to the authorities so that legal action can be taken to ensure the well-being and safety of the local community.
