Selangor, Johor govts to aid students injured in Jordan

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government will help the families of two Malaysian students who were involved in an accident in Jordan, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic).

The female students – Sumayya Azamuddin and Fatimah Nuha Mustaza, who hail from Selangor – were among four people injured in the road accident on Friday.

“Sumayya is said to have light injuries but Fatimah suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment,” Amirudin said in a Facebook post yesterday.

His office has since contacted the students’ next of kin and will continue to monitor their condition.

“Let us pray that the students will recover well and all matters will be handled smoothly,” he added.

On Friday, the two students together with two others from Johor, Muhammad Zakwan Azhar Masjudin and Muhammad Ilham Dzurllkanian@Zulkarnian, were travelling in a car when the accident occurred.

All four are first-year students at Mu’tah University in Jordan.

The Johor government said it will monitor the Malaysians to ensure they receive the necessary medical aid.

Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khaled said the state government, through its education attaché at the Malaysian Embassy in Egypt, will track their progress and provide support.

“Any required medical aid will be arranged based on their condition,” he was quoted as saying in an English daily.

“I pray for their speedy recovery so they can resume their studies,” he added.
