ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor government has pledged to cover the medical expenses of two students from the state involved in a road accident in Jordan, ensuring they receive necessary treatment without financial burden.
Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee Chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said that Muhammad Ilham Dzurllkanian @ Zulkarnian and Muhammad Zakwan Azhar Masjudin, both first-year students, were involved in the accident alongside two other students from Selangor.
"The accident was a self-inflicted incident and did not involve any other vehicles," he said during a press conference after the Coordination Briefing on Eradicating Hardcore Poverty and the Johor Dapur Kasih 2025 Programme briefing at Kota Iskandar on Monday (March 10).
He added that the two students from Johor sustained minor injuries but remain traumatised. They are currently receiving treatment at Al-Karak Hospital in Mu’tah.
"Both students are in stable condition and expected to be discharged today. However, Ilham requires further monitoring as he is still using a neck brace," he said.
Meanwhile, the other two students, Sumayya Azamuddin and Fatimah Nuha Mustaza, are also under medical supervision. Sumayya remains under observation, while Fatimah, who underwent a CT scan, is reported to be stable.
Mohd Fared announced that the Johor government, through the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ), will cover the medical expenses of RM4,424 for the two Johorean students, despite them being privately sponsored students.
"Although they are not under MAIJ sponsorship, the state government is committed to assisting them. The cost will be settled through Education Malaysia in Jordan," he said.
He assured that there is no cause for concern regarding their medical expenses and reiterated that MAIJ will handle the payments on behalf of the Johor government.
On Friday, the students were travelling in a car when the accident occurred. All four are first-year students at Mu’tah University in Jordan.
