KUALA LANGAT: The police are searching for a foreign man, an owner of an e-waste processing factory that was discovered to be processing bullets and casings at Telok Panglima Garang here
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said investigations showed the bullets were brought from overseas.
"The e-waste factory has two registered owners: a local and a foreigner.
"The local man has been detained, but the foreign man has fled, and authorities are searching for him.
"The land (the factory is on) is gazetted as industrial land, and on the surface, the activities looked legitimate...that is until the authorities raided the premises," he told reporters after visiting the raided factory on Thursday (March 6).
Saifuddin Nasution said the police are investigating the bullets' discovery under the Firearms Act 1971, while the Department of Environment (DOE) is taking action under the Quality of Environment Act 1974.
"The factory has been operating for close to two years.
"The police will look at all angles on the matter, especially in terms of security following the discovery of a large number of bullets," he said.
It was reported that a raid at an illegal e-waste recycling factory led to the discovery of more than 50 tonnes of bullet casings and live ones due for re-smelting on February 15.
The raid was part of the special operation codenamed Ops Hazard.
