CCTV cameras to be compulsory for all housing areas in FT, says Zaliha

KUALA LUMPUR: Housing developers must install CCTV facilities at all housing areas in Federal Territories, according to Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) stated that this mandate aims to ensure the safety of residents in these areas.

She noted that CCTV system installations are subject to technical requirements and specifications set by the local authorities under the development order or building planning permission.

"This is part of our commitment to not only provide affordable housing but also comfortable and conducive living environments, particularly for the M40 and B40 groups in the Federal Territories," she said in a written parliamentary reply on Wednesday (Mar 5).

She added that every housing development, especially the Madani Residencies, must also be equipped with facilities that enhance livability.

This includes sports or recreational amenities, green or open areas, healthcare facilities, educational facilities like mini libraries or daycare centers, inclusive spaces for the elderly, and urban gardening spaces.

Dr Zaliha was responding to Prabakaran Parameswaran (PH-Batu) on how new housing projects in the federal territories provide a safe and social environment for residents, especially in densely populated urban areas.
