KUALA LUMPUR: Interviews with stakeholders are still ongoing for the feasibility study on proposed amendments to the Federal Capital Act 1960, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh says.

“The study is expected to be completed by the end of this month and presented in April,” she said.

Yeoh added that an interim report has been presented to the government.

The study is being conducted by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on proposed amendments to the said Act.

“We met once with the team conducting the study, for the interim report,” Yeoh said during a press conference on strengthening fire safety awareness in Kuala Lumpur’s high-density strata properties at the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department headquarters yesterday.

StarMetro reported on Jan 31 that a group of Kuala Lumpur MPs had submitted a Private Members Bill in November last year to amend the Federal Capital Act 1960 and introduce council members for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

The feasibility study began last December following the tabling of the Private Members’ Bill in Dewan Rakyat.

In a media statement dated Feb 12, the Federal Territories Department (JWP) said that IIUM had submitted a Preliminary Report on Dec 16 and that it was presented to the JWP on Jan 12.

The statement also said that an Interim Report was submitted on Jan 27 and presented to the JWP on Jan 28.
