SCAMMERS are now targeting owners of lost pets by claiming to be able to find them using drones and satellites, reported Sin Chew Daily.
One such victim was Yang, a woman in Kajang, Selangor, who lost her pet Corgi, Luckee, whom she had for 14 years, on Feb 23.
Yang had posted a plea on Facebook and in her neighbourhood WhatsApp group.
An Internet user with the handle Vernon Chai contacted Yang via Facebook about a group called New Malaysia Lost Pet Search Team that had supposedly helped reunite him with his lost dog and gave her a number to call.
When she texted the group on WhatsApp, it replied claiming to be able to help locate lost pets using drones and satellites for a RM300 fee.
Desperate, Yang transferred the money to the group. “They went completely silent after receiving the money. Even though it’s not a large sum, I have been hurt deeply, especially at a time when I’m feeling helpless,” she said.
Yang said Luckee is blind and deaf due to old age, and although the chances of finding him were slim she has not given up hope.
Anyone who has spotted a Corgi at the Palm Walk residential estate can contact her at 017-361 2733.
> Hong Kong superstar Jacky Cheung rubbished talk that his wife had squandered his wealth, forcing him to continue touring at the age of 63, the daily reported.
With Cheung completing the 1,000th show of his career in Hainan, China, on Feb 23, Internet users began speculating on why he was still working at his age.
The hottest take was that his wife, former actress May Lo, had spent the family fortune of HK$2bil (RM1.1bil), and Cheung’s tour is to help pay off their debts.
Cheung, however, was quick to shoot the rumours down.
