PETALING JAYA: A new party called Parti Wawasan Negara has joined the nation’s evolving political landscape.
Launched by former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, the party is expected to hold its first annual general meeting next week aimed at strengthening its organisational structure.
He said PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had suggested the name.
“The party I wish to announce was named by my mentor, Ayahanda (Abdul Hadi) Ayah Chik.
“It is called Parti Wawasan Negara.
“We will work together to build greater understanding and a more comprehensive political cooperation for the future agenda of the people and the nation,” he said in his speech during the Reset Convention yesterday.
Hamzah acknowledged that the newly-formed party was still in its infancy and would require guidance from experienced political leaders.
“Without the guidance and support of my mentor, Abdul Hadi, we would not know where to go,” he said.
He also pledged his unwavering commitment to Perikatan Nasional.
“I will continue to be with Perikatan. We want to remain with PAS, Gerakan and our friends,” he said.
Hamzah had previously launched the Reset movement, a new political initiative, shortly following his sacking from Bersatu in February.
The convention was attended by Abdul Hadi, Perikatan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau and Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.
Also present were several Bersatu leaders aligned with Hamzah, including vice-president Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee and Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
