A TOTAL of 75,494 disabled job seekers were employed under the Human Resources Ministry’s Return To Work (RTW) programme from 2020 until Feb 21 this year, says Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad.
The Deputy Human Resources Minister said the RTW aims to assist those who are injured or suffering from illness to recover and return to work.
He said for this year alone until Feb 21, a total of 4,928 disabled job seekers gained employment.
According to Abdul Rahman, the RTW is among the ministry’s many initiatives to help the disabled find jobs.
Other initiatives, he said, were the services provided by the MYFutureJobs satellite centre in Bangi and Warisan Anak Selangor Foundation, as well as targeted job carnivals for the disabled.
“The ministry also has an initiative under the Madani training programme to upskill the disabled with basic skills training through various courses.”
Abdul Rahman was responding to a question by Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (BN-Kuala Pilah), who asked about strategies to assist the disabled in employment access.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman said his ministry, through the Skills Development Department, has accredited 1,582 centres across Malaysia, of which 922 accept trainees with disabilities.
“Of the total, seven certified centres are dedicated entirely to disabled trainees,” he added.
At the same time, Abdul Rahman said his ministry, though the Labour Department, has trained disabled students, providing tuition fee exemptions and a monthly assistance of RM300.
“From 2020 to 2024, a total of 245 disabled students were trained at the Labour Department Training Institution in the fields of graphic design, electronics and mechatronics technology.”
A circular by the Public Service Department on Feb 17 outlined a new management guideline for inclusivity at the workplace.
It urged department heads to encourage their staff to declare their status under the Human Resources Management Information System.
