Amirudin not contesting PKR deputy president post at next party polls

SHAH ALAM: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic) has put to rest speculation that he will contest for the deputy president's post in the upcoming party polls.

He said in his speech at the launch of the Selangor PKR division annual general meeting on Friday (Feb 28) that he will defend his current position.

He said party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must receive full support from Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli in the latter's capacity as party deputy president.

"So I will continue being the vice-president as all of us must have a strong and unified voice to move forward and ensure Anwar becomes prime minister for a second term," added Amirudin, who is also Selangor Mentri Besar.

Talk was rife within the party grapevine that there would be a three-way fight for the PKR deputy president's post with Amirudin and another senior leader taking on incumbent Rafizi.
