Former cement plant manager detained for corruption


SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has detained a former manager of a cement manufacturing plant for corruption.

The suspect is in his 50s and is being investigated for allegedly soliciting and accepting RM100,000 in bribes from a company owner to expedite payment for maintenance and cleanliness work and to award projects at the plant.

A MACC spokesman said the suspect was detained when he turned up for questioning at the state MACC office on Monday (Feb 24).

"We have obtained an order to remand the suspect for six days till March 2," he said.

He added that the suspect allegedly accepted bribes between 2018 and 2020.

"The suspect allegedly solicited the money from the owner of an engineering company. The money was allegedly deposited into his personal bank account," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
