Three dead after chicken lorry crashes into parked trailer in Tanah Merah

TANAH MERAH: A driver and two passengers were killed early Tuesday morning (July 21) after their chicken delivery lorry crashed into a parked trailer along Batu 7 of the East-West Highway in Batang Merbau.

The victims have been identified as driver Norazeman Abdul Aziz, 42, and passengers Mohd Haikal Hanifah, 29, and Mohammad Zakwan Mohd Nor, 16. All three died at the scene, reported Sinar Harian.

Tanah Merah Fire and Rescue Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer I Mat Nuri Mohamad, said an emergency call was received at 4:26am.

"Upon arrival, firefighters found a five-tonne lorry carrying chicken supplies from Perak to Kelantan that had crashed into a trailer parked on the roadside," Mat Nuri said when contacted. "All three victims were pinned inside the vehicle."

Rescue personnel extricated the victims from the wreckage, but Ministry of Health personnel confirmed they had succumbed to their injuries at the site.

Their bodies were handed over to the police and sent to the Tanah Merah Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem examinations.
