KULIM: A total of 101 students escaped unharmed after a fire broke out at the Sekolah Menengah Agama Tarbiah Diniah male dormitory early Tuesday morning (July 21).
Emergency responders received a distress call at 2.47am before firefighters from the Kulim, Kulim Hi-Tech, and local Volunteer Fire Department stations were dispatched to the scene, reported Sinar Harian.
Operations Commander Assistant Fire Chief Abdul Mois Ahmad Mansur said the blaze engulfed the upper floor of the two-storey building, destroying roughly 65% of the structure.
"All 101 students managed to evacuate safely to a designated assembly point prior to the arrival of the firefighters," Abdul Mois said.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 3.09am using four water streams, officially concluding operations at 6.25am after completing safety overhauls.
The affected dormitory housed Form Two, Form Three, Form Four, and Form Six students. Following the incident, the school permitted all students to return home with their families at 7:00 am while authorities manage the aftermath.
The cause of the fire and total financial losses remain under investigation.
