Dorm room at IIUM in Gombak catches fire


PETALING JAYA: A hostel room at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in Gombak was 80% damaged in a fire on Sunday (Oct 4).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received a distress call at 12.41pm.

He said eight firefighters from the Selayang Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene, arriving at 1pm.

“The fire involved a hostel room on the first floor of a three-storey building.

“The room, measuring about 10ft by 10ft, was 80% damaged in the fire. Firefighters managed to put out the blaze and no casualties were reported,” he said in a statement today.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
