GRS to tackle seat distribution at supreme council meeting on Feb 23

KOTA KINABALU: Seat arrangements are among the main topics to be discussed in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) coalition supreme council meeting on Sunday (Feb 23).

“Seat allocations for the upcoming 17th state election would be among the key agendas deliberated on among representatives from its eight component parties,” said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is GRS chairman.

When asked about Usno president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin’s call for GRS to contest solo in all 73 state seats in the state polls, he said there is no decision on this as yet.

Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said he looked forward to a progressive outcome from the meeting.

He had also previously called for GRS to go alone in the coming state elections citing Sabahans knowing what the state needed the most, among other reasons for this proposal.

Similarly, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Yong Teck Lee had also made the same call sometime in 2023.

GRS is made up of the dominant Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) with 26 assemblymen, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) with seven assemblymen, Sabah STAR with six and SAPP and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) with one representative each.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), United Sabah National Organisation (USNO) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) are also part of this coalition but they do not hold any state seats.
