KUALA BERANG: An allocation of RM16mil has been set aside for the restoration of Pulau Petang in Tasik Kenyir, says Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
He said the project aims to revive 50 abandoned resort rooms on the island, incorporating solar energy solutions.
The restoration works also include repairing the bridge leading to the Kelah Sanctuary and constructing medium-class houseboats to enhance tourism offerings, he said.
“We also plan to plant Musang King durian trees sourced from Raub in Pahang.
“If the yield is substantial, we can commercialise it.
“Otherwise, visitors can enjoy the fruit,” Ahmad said during a media visit to the island yesterday, Bernama reported.
The project is expected to commence mid-year and will take at least 12 months to complete.
Pulau Petang, spanning 8ha, previously served various purposes including hosting courses and state executive council meetings.
Ahmad said although the island is under Ketengah’s ownership, collaboration with the state government is essential to maintain and enhance the island’s quality and appeal.
