Runway at KLIA temporary closes, reopens after burst aircraft tyre cleared

PETALING JAYA: One of Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s (KLIA) runways will remain temporarily closed until 9pm on Saturday (June 13) following an earlier aircraft tyre burst, according to a travel advisory issued by Malaysia Airports.

The closure, reflected in the latest Notice to Airmen, affects one runway, while flight operations on KLIA’s remaining two runways continue normally.

In its update, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad said some arriving and departing flights may be delayed, particularly during the evening peak period.

“Some arriving and departing flights may experience delays during the evening peak period.

“Our teams are working closely with airlines and relevant stakeholders to complete recovery works and restore normal operations as safely and efficiently as possible,” it said.

Passengers have been advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information before heading to KLIA.

Airport authorities said recovery efforts are ongoing, with ground teams, airlines and aviation stakeholders coordinating to minimise disruption while ensuring safety remains the top priority.

However, in a later statement, Malaysia Airports said the affected runway was reopened and flight operations resumed as usual.

"The affected runway at KLIA reopened at 7:40 PM following final safety clearance from CAAM. Flight operations on the runway have resumed and returned to normal," it said.
