Medical innovation key to sustainable healthcare, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Advancements in colorectal surgery and sustainable healthcare practices are at the forefront of the 20th Congress of the Asia Pacific Federation of Coloproctology (APFCP) 2025, currently taking place here.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor highlighted the importance of medical innovation in improving patient care and shaping the future of surgery.

"Healthcare is a fundamental pillar of society. Excellence in medical practice benefits not only practitioners but also millions of patients worldwide," he said in his speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam on Friday (Feb 14).

He stressed that the three-day programme, which ends on Feb 16, reflects the commitment of the colorectal surgical community to advancing healthcare services.

This year’s theme "Sustainable Surgery: Embracing Innovation, Empowering Teams" underscores the importance of integrating medical advancements with long-term healthcare sustainability.

Hajiji also commended the congress’ scientific programme, which brings together global experts to share insights and discuss the latest developments in colorectal surgery.

"I am confident that this platform will foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

"The discussions over the next few days will contribute to the continuous improvement of healthcare practices, benefiting patients not just in the Asia-Pacific region but globally," he said.

With a focus on innovation and teamwork, the congress aims to strengthen international partnerships and encourage the adoption of new technologies and best practices in surgical care.
