AirAsia named World's Best Low-Cost Airline for 2025

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia and its affiliate medium-haul airlines, AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X, have been recognised as the World's Best Low-Cost Airline for 2025 by AirlineRatings.com.

"This is a significant acknowledgement of the incredible efforts made by the team at AirAsia X, as we have been laser-focused on delivering the very best value and service for medium-haul air travel spanning Australia, Asia, and beyond," said AirAsia X chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail in a statement on Thursday (Feb 13).

He noted that the airline has gained strong momentum recently, with improved operational performance across all key metrics, including a 20% surge in passenger numbers in 2024 compared to 2023.

Ismail added that this growth is complemented by a 20% increase in capacity and improved aircraft utilisation while maintaining a healthy load factor of 83% by the end of 2024.

"We continue to explore new products and services, including the recent launch of special lounge access for premium customers at key airports such as Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, and Melbourne," he said.

Thai AirAsia X CEO Tassapon Bijleveld highlighted the airline’s rapid post-Covid-19 recovery, stating that the team has worked tirelessly to restore the company's strength and achieve significant growth.

"This recognition is an incredible morale booster, reaffirming global confidence in the airline's standards and excellence," he said.

AirlineRatings.com CEO Sharon Petersonn praised AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X for setting the benchmark in low-cost medium-haul air travel.

"Both airlines offer passengers the perfect balance between comfort and affordability for longer-haul journeys—an award-winning combination that continues to earn them accolades year after year," she said.
