Young girl dies after car falls into ravine near Raub

RAUB: A five-year-old girl tragically died after the car she was in plunged into a ravine on the old Raub-Bentong road near the first Tras bridge on Tuesday (Feb 11).

Raub District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman told Sinar Harian that the child was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 6pm.

Initial investigations revealed that the car, driven by the child's father, a durian plantation worker, was travelling from Tranum towards Raub.

"Upon reaching the location, it is believed he lost control of the car and veered into the ravine. The 30-year-old father then managed to exit the vehicle and carry up his unconscious daughter," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Fire and rescue teams attempted to resuscitate the child at the scene but ultimately were unsuccessful.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
