KUANTAN: A man drowned while trying to save his son who had fallen into a fish pond at a resort in Sungai Ruan, Raub on Saturday (Aug 8).
Raub OCPD Supt Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said police received information on the incident involving Mohamed Hafidz Che Din, 46, at about 3pm.
He said preliminary investigations found that the victim jumped into the pond to save his eight-year-old son, who had fallen in while trying to retrieve a plastic bread bag used as fishing bait.
"The victim's son was rescued by a worker and an Indonesian national who also assisted during the incident.
"However, the victim did not resurface for about 20 minutes before he was found near the stairs at the side of the pond.
"He was brought out, and CPR was administered several times but to no avail," he said when contacted.
Mohd Shahril said the victim was taken to Raub Hospital, where a post-mortem found that the cause of death was asphyxia secondary to drowning. — Bernama
