Court orders govt, Razak Baginda to pay RM9mil to Altantuya's family

SHAH ALAM: The High Court here on Wednesday (Feb 12) ordered the government and political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda to pay more than RM9 million to the family of the late Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.

According to a report from Sinar Harian, the Shaariibuu family's lawyer, Sangeet Kaur Deo, stated that Judicial Commissioner M Sumathi directed both parties to settle the payment within 30 days.

The payment must be deposited into the account of the law firm Karpal Singh & Co until the appeal is resolved.

Altantuya was reportedly involved as a translator in negotiations for the sale of submarines by a French arms supplier, DNS, to the Malaysian government.

She was murdered by two bodyguards of Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who was then the Deputy Prime Minister, on Oct 18, 2006.

Following the murder, two Special Action Unit (UTK) officers, Corporal Sirul Azhar and Chief Inspector Azilah, were arrested and charged in the Shah Alam High Court for the murder of Altantuya in November 2006.
