KLUANG: The Kluang Municipal Council’s Enforcement Unit has lodged a police report regarding a viral video allegedly spreading false accusations about the council’s actions in euthanising stray dogs.
Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the video, which went viral on Friday (Feb 7), has sparked widespread debate on social media.
“The case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation. If convicted, the suspect could face up to two years in prison, a fine, or both.
“The case is also being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities, which carries a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 8).
He added that police are currently tracking down the suspect involved in the case.

Earlier, a two-minute video uploaded by Facebook user Fauziah Paws Care purportedly showed the killing of homeless dogs, which quickly went viral.
